I will search to see if you done a video, or have an opinion, on removing the pre-cats.
I havent as yet ....
As a recent new owner of a 1996 TVR Chimaera 400 (and with poor mechanical skills) I really appreciate your videos. I have just bought a new set of leads, distributor cap and rotor arm from John Craddock for fitment. What plugs do you recommend - NGK BPR6ES? How have the leads held up without extenders and socks over the last three years? Many Thanks
you need the Rs to give suppression, the leads etc all have been fine with no issues at all.
How did get even height measurements for your coilovers? I used measuring tape with a blade sticking out towards the tape for the best measurement
I did a similar thing. I picked a flat surface and then measured the height from the ground to the top point of the wheel arch
Got charged 3hrs labour for this job, my jaw still hasn’t came back off the floor.
My video is nine mins long job took 20mins maximum on the driveway....perhaps you should ask them why it took them so long
@@SNORKYMEDIA I did, said it was a pig of a job 🙄 hence I won’t be back.Lesson learned, I’ll diy next time if needed and follow along to your video bud
Great video - Compressed spring between your legs 🙂 I know you had it secure but I had to close my eyes during that section. I went the extra step on my 2010 Note and replaced the rusty struts (£170 for two from GSF). I wasn't expecting any difference in performance but to my surprise the car now drives like new and holds the road really well, the old struts must have been spent.
By coincidence I also need to do this again as my last unit failed after 2.5 years. I like the idea of bagging it to stop water getting in.
So the clip/ pipe nearest the wheel is the feed from the tank ?
Yes but DOUBLE CHECK IT trace it back as these are hand made cars so you can't guarantee it was assembled the same way every time...
LO, I found that my engine compartment is missing yet another part and headed to the parts store. We fixed the Voltage Regulator last week so know how to take the dipstick brace off. The diagram was very helpful and the tip on taking caps off. Now it is clear how to take off. I had to buy a wiring harness because all the connectors to the coil packs were broke. Good video and didn't feel like it was filmed on an aircraft carrier like most others! Getting my degree in MK1.
My boot catch is non existent. Only the cable and bracket to hold the lower catch. Top piece also not there. I have no clue what to look for in order to replace the catch but I will find the parts eventually. Right now though I'm giving the guts a good albeit slow service and these videos are priceless. Thanks.
The bottom part was easy to find on the internet, The top part looks a bit like mk1 MX5
@@SNORKYMEDIA will snoop around the internet when I get to the boot. I am also missing a driver side mirror. I cannot for the life of me find any affordable spares but I see guys put TT mirrors on with a bit of engineering. May go that direction but again, only when I get there. Engine and electrics are going to keep my busy and broke for ages.
I got my hands on a TVR Chimaera 400 1996 model about a month ago. It had been left in storage for about 7 years with a start and wash once in a while. Some minor body damage but plenty to keep me busy with in her guts. As a first time mechanic I picked the right car to learn with and am having fun getting bit by bit sorted on a very limited budget and relying on the internet for help. I've just stumbled upon your channel now and am watching your tiv vids and taking notes. Thank you for the very clear walk through. You have answered quite a lot of questions I had in the first few videos I've watched already so decided to stop and say thank you on this one before I carry on. Much appreciated mate.
Thank you for the kind words. My reason for starting this channel was to help people who thought " I could never do that" and assure them they could. It's great to hear they are helping people. More Tiv content to come soon !!!
@@SNORKYMEDIA can't wait for new Tiv vids. So today I removed the spark plugs, cables and dizzy and just gave everything a check and clean and put it all back together again. Jumped in, fired the beast up and went for a drive. Plugs and cables are in need of replacement but now that I practiced after watching your vid I reckon it will be a quick job. I took my time and was careful and it all went smoothly. Cheers!
Hi - Would you know how to remove the headlight adjuster motor from the back of a 2007 Nissan Note e11 headlight?
In the manual it just states "the motor is clipped onto the rear of the headlight unit, at the time of writing (the manual) it is not available separately". So it sounds like you have to find tabs to push or lever up to remove it and you may have to get a good used one if they dont sell them....
@@SNORKYMEDIA Thanks for the reply. I have them on my old worn out headlights so I was just going to take them off and put them on a pair of new lights. From what I can tell on eBay they have a ball joint on the end of a stalk that goes inside the light. I don't know if they twist or just pull off with a lot of effort. Don't want to be too hard with them in case I break them.
@@SNORKYMEDIA I worked out how to do it. With the headlight face down and the pointy end towards you with the motor to the left of the main bulb, twist the whole motor to the left, From about 12 o'clock to about 10 o'clock while pulling upwards. It's tight at first but very easy to do.
Merci beaucoup
2013 Sandra SR broken passenger side spring. Probably replace both and shocks at some point.
Modern springs don't seem to last very long unfortunately.....
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Just done exactly what you did and after many years of not working I now have a washing back window in my daughter's car, thanks so much.
This fixed my issue, only thing to mention is while squeezing the freshly cleaned connection onto the new sensor I brushed it against an oily wire housing accidentally and didn't realise that I had done so. When I tested the car after this the light and beep came back and my heart sank. After realising there was some oil in the connection I cleaned it again with contact cleaner and the issue was gone completely.
Good point
flap at 12;04 saves you taking scuttle off @SNORKYMEDIA :) i have same on k12 micra but cut my own one on passenger side which doesnt have it and added a grommet !
In theory it stops you taking it off. But the access is rubbish , you have no real sight of the bolt hole..and if you drop the bolt....you're takin it off anyways...🤓
@@SNORKYMEDIA yeah i just said it before anyone else but yeah , ive had wipers off that much on mine, nothings hard to undo lol . yep , parts are getting shi* quality , Ive done 2 sets of Anti roll bar droplinks in 36k miles , and i find the nissans like ours are very garage fix minded , The humble mechanic has to think a bit more than usual . For instance , subframe to exhasut rubber and bracket , OMFG . ps , ratchets and sockets in that set look proper nice ,I agree :)
@@Oh-Jay52they do seem good quality and at that price it's a no-brainer.
Very useful as usual
Nice job, sir. :) Maybe it would have been easier to just buy a new replacement bumper, and paint it. Without sanding off the old one and all the chore of doing it.
Maybe a second-hand one in the same colour???? I quite enjoyed doing it to be honest
Great help mate.....bloody adjustment screw for the alt belt cam out of its nut on mine.....could not get it in.....going back out now to take the adjustment pully off as I can see in the vid where I need to see. I wasn't getting enough slack.....I know see I hadn't slackened the adjuster pully central nut enough for the adjuster to slide freely. Not a nice job.
Exactly same thing just happened on my juke, luckily I bought new springs last year for MOT but didn't need them till now. Actually thought it was handbrake shoe rubbing before I took wheel off 😂
Yes the wheel studs are particularly small on these cars so make sure the tyre guys don't use the air tool at all to do them up. It's one of the best ways to strip the threads! I got my TVR and undid all the wheel nuts. They were crazy tight. Put them on at the correct torque. So many times I see bolts done up so tight. Only damge is done. Nothing good about "too tight!"
It's just laziness. God knows how they think people are gonna get them off in an emergency situation with a tiny wrench
My oil pressure sensor is leaking slightly and goes off/zero pressure, intermittently. Lucky the ECU doesn't seem to bother about that as it would in some cars. I'm now sure I can change it after watching your video. Thank you very much ☺️.
Good to hear. Go for it
hi great video i have nissian note 1.6 2007 petrol iv had it in the garage n they say mine are shoot meaning they no good have you got a link to theses thanks

I found with my 2005 k12 there were 3 types fitted in one year to my car , i fully sympathise as i had to spend 1 hour in a local motor factors as both them and I found this info out, Strange but hey, lots more over engineering courtesy of Nissan !
Holy Shi* @SNORKYMEDIA £54 ? I paid I think £17 from ebay pre Covid for both , My droplinks were £12 for 2 as well but I must admit I bought the collared ones not the allen key style , i have bought a 2nd hand Subframe for the K12 and prepping it with new bushes and some paint before simply swapping the whole unit out , in some ways its not a bad job , thanks for this Video (was subscribed and glad I noticed somwhow I was no longer so re-subbed ) Nice Work :)
eBay is great but takes time. We need the car so I went with a local car factors shop for these.
Great video Snorky, gave me the confidence to have a go at mine. Did your fix hold up to setting your mirror up for good visibility. I think mine will just be fixed as I'm sure it will not take folding in for parking. Shouldn't be necessary.
It isn't perfect , but seems stable enough to cope with normal use. Like you I pretty much never fold the mirrors
My tripod simply unscrewed, afterwhich I could get to the screw that attaches to the mirror.
I wasnt so lucky...
My tripod turns on the mount thats fixed in the door. But it won't come off. Like it's not threaded? I certainly don't have a grub screw there either.....no sign of one anywhere at the base of that tripod?
That's where mine has broken. I really appreciate this video. Thanks SnorkyMedia 👍
There’s a wiring loom in the way and I can’t get the sensor out. It’s loose and free but the loom will no let the sensor out. Any tips anyone? 😂
Is there any way to unclip or un-cabletie the loom to move it???
Thanks for the video!!
How did you get on with the leads blowing off!! and did you use heat proof socks over the HT caps. I went back to metal extenders as i couldn't stop the leads from coming off
I have had no extenders and socks on for over a year now with no issues. The end of a plug and extender are the same so can't see how having no extenders would be worse....
if you put some weld on the bearing the puller will have something to grip on the hub and put the new baring in the freezer to shrink it
if I had a welder that might work...
Thanks for sharing. Had to do a service and change my oil sump. Started to go dark so will leave the sump until tomorrow as I didnt want to be battering my car in the dark with a head torch. Plus my oil filter wrench is too big so will be old school too.
Iv always been told to use 5w-40
Well the numbers indicate how easily the oil flows. The number before the W indicates flow for normal operating temp . The number after the W( which stands for Winter) is for winter flow so a lower number flows better.
@@SNORKYMEDIA its the other way around
super💥
im super thankful your videos, they've helped me tremendously! I do have a question though, where is the starter motor on these cars? Our starter seems to continue running for 3-4 seconds after the engine starts and sounds awful. (at least i think thats what the noise is!) any help would be much appreciated 🙏
On the 1.4 petrol it is at the back of the engine where it meets the clutch bell housing. It has two bolts and two cables to disconnect. Haynes do a service manual for notes which is quite good and not that expensive....
@@SNORKYMEDIAthanks for the reply, much appreciated! the noise I'm hearing is coming from that kind of area. Is it near the top at the back?
@@SNORKYMEDIA I can't actually check because it's raining hard here in Stornoway and good mechanics don't exist here.
Always very informative
I think the exhaust kit you got fits the e11 1.6 but not 1.4 and believe it or not are a lot of variations depending if manual or automatic 1.6
You may be right. The supplier insisted it was correct 🤪. When I searched for my car, every diagram they show is obviously wrong???!?
My 2010 1.4 Note has no mid box. I know of another 2010 1.4 that also has no mid box.
You need a windy gun my old mate. Why did you only take the inside of the bearing first. You should of pushed the whole bearing out surely?.
Recently bought one!!!
Hi mate, I've just been doing this job on my note and I would just like to say a massive wholehearted thank you for this informative video! Your knowledge and explanations are exemplary and you should be proud of what you do, thank you pal
Thanks for your kind words
Tyre worn and noisy as you describe some times reflect the condition of the shocks.
In this case the shocks were fine it was the cheap Chinese tyre that was the issue
I like my one pdf please!😂😅
luckily this sensor is the most cheaper sensor you can get than other sensors but a bit tricky to DIY I did this yesterday yeah I’m glad 😊the OE sensor was in service & last for 21 years !
Very true
Noce vid, since I have to do this job on the 180 of a friend ;)
Hello Snorky I see how you are picking up your vehicle with floor jacks and I use a similar method. Having done it many times I find in the raising process to be calmly under control. The lowering process I find the suspended vehicle to be strangely higher than I would like it to be. I use 8X8, 2x6, timbers. Craig.
Thanks for the info. I intend to strengthen my jig for the rear of the car with some metal before lowering it as that felt the worst. The front felt fine.
Hello Snorky watching from Canada. I just purchased a 2014 note and replaced both front struts rear shocks and brakes all around. All my work passed cert except because the front had a tiny fender bender the shop replaced 1 lower control arm. My thoughts as to when horizontal bushings should be tightened is as follows. Leave the bolts just loose with all four wheels on the ground and then tighten the bushing bolts. This is the neutral position and when the suspension moves up and down the twisting is equal, with no twisting when on a flat surface. Craig from Canada.
Can the front shock absorber stick?
Yes definitely if the shaft gets rusty
Does it need the new shock absorber or reparation?
UPDATE. The rattle turned out to be the drop links from the strut to the antiroll bar on each side.
I was watching your video up to the point you are doing the other side and i was thinking why you did not jump on droplinks first😂😅 glad you got it sorted.
